Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for our mother living with terminal pancreatic cancer and jaundice. This role involves palliative care, symptom management, and offering emotional support to help her and our family cope with the challenges of her illness.
Responsibilities:
Palliative Care: Provide compassionate palliative care to our mother, focusing on alleviating pain and discomfort, managing symptoms, and enhancing her quality of life during her final stages of pancreatic cancer. Offer support and reassurance to promote comfort and dignity.
Symptom Management: Assist in managing symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer and jaundice, such as pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and pruritus, through pharmacological interventions, non-pharmacological comfort measures, and supportive care techniques tailored to our mother’s needs and preferences.
Emotional Support: Offer empathetic and compassionate support to our mother and our family caregivers, providing reassurance, companionship, and comfort amidst the challenges of facing terminal illness and caregiving. Foster a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to emotional healing and well-being.
Family Caregiver Support: Provide education, guidance, and emotional support to family caregivers, helping them cope with the demands of caregiving, offering respite care opportunities, and promoting their own self-care and well-being. Facilitate open communication and provide opportunities for family members to express their feelings and concerns.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with healthcare providers, including oncologists, palliative care specialists, and social workers, to ensure coordinated care and optimize treatment strategies for managing symptoms, promoting comfort, and enhancing overall quality of life for our mother and our family caregivers. Communicate regularly with family members to provide updates on our mother’s condition, address concerns, and adjust care plans as needed.
Requirements:
Certification as a registered nurse with experience in palliative care, oncology, or hospice care.
Proficiency in symptom management techniques for individuals with terminal cancer, including knowledge of pharmacological interventions, non-pharmacological comfort measures, and palliative care principles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate support to patients and their families dealing with end-of-life care.
