About the Client:
We are committed to providing compassionate care for a 65-year-old woman facing terminal pancreatic cancer. She is currently experiencing malnutrition and significant weight loss, which are impacting her overall well-being and quality of life. Our primary goal is to ensure she receives the necessary support to maintain her nutritional status and enhance her comfort during this challenging time.
Project Overview:
We are seeking a skilled nursing team to provide comprehensive care for our client with terminal pancreatic cancer. This project involves implementing strategies to address malnutrition, promote nutritional supplementation, and offer supportive care to enhance her quality of life.
Responsibilities:
– **Nutritional Assessment and Planning:**
– Conduct a thorough nutritional assessment to evaluate the client’s dietary intake, nutritional needs, and barriers to adequate nutrition.
– Develop individualized nutritional care plans based on the assessment findings and the client’s preferences and goals.
– **Nutritional Support:**
– Administer oral, enteral, or parenteral nutritional supplementation as prescribed by the healthcare team to meet the client’s nutritional requirements.
– Monitor the client’s tolerance to nutritional supplements and adjust the regimen as needed to optimize intake.
– **Appetite Management:**
– Administer appetite stimulants as prescribed to enhance the client’s appetite and encourage food intake.
– Provide education and support to the client and her caregivers on strategies to improve appetite, such as small, frequent meals and nutrient-dense foods.
– **Symptom Management:**
– Offer supportive care measures to alleviate symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer and malnutrition, such as pain management, nausea control, and psychosocial support.
– Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to address the client’s holistic needs and enhance her overall comfort and well-being.
Requirements:
– **Qualifications and Experience:**
– Registered nurses (RNs) with experience in oncology nursing, palliative care, or hospice care.
– Familiarity with nutritional assessment tools, enteral and parenteral nutrition, and symptom management in terminally ill patients.
– **Skills and Competencies:**
– Proficiency in conducting nutritional assessments, developing care plans, and implementing nutritional interventions tailored to the client’s needs.
– Knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition administration, including equipment management and monitoring for complications.
– **Personal Attributes:**
– A compassionate and empathetic approach to caring for individuals facing terminal illness, recognizing the importance of providing emotional support and comfort.
– Effective communication skills and the ability to communicate sensitively with the client and her family members, fostering trust and collaboration in the care process.
