Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for our 30-year-old family member with borderline personality disorder. This role involves dialectical behavior therapy, crisis intervention, and support for developing healthy coping mechanisms to help her manage her condition effectively.
Responsibilities:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Facilitate dialectical behavior therapy sessions to help our family member learn skills for managing emotions, coping with distress, and improving interpersonal relationships. Implement evidence-based DBT techniques such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to support her in developing adaptive coping strategies and achieving treatment goals.
Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and support to our family member during times of acute distress or emotional instability. Utilize therapeutic techniques to de-escalate crises, assess risk of self-harm or suicidal ideation, and implement safety plans to ensure her safety and well-being. Collaborate with mental health professionals and emergency services as needed to address crisis situations effectively.
Support for Coping Mechanisms: Offer guidance and support to our family member in developing and practicing healthy coping mechanisms to manage her symptoms and reduce self-harming behaviors. Provide education on alternative coping strategies, problem-solving techniques, and self-soothing exercises to help her navigate challenging emotions and situations in a constructive manner.
Emotional Regulation: Assist our family member in developing skills for regulating emotions and managing mood swings associated with borderline personality disorder. Teach mindfulness techniques, relaxation exercises, and cognitive restructuring strategies to help her identify and challenge maladaptive thought patterns and regulate intense emotions more effectively.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with mental health professionals, including therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for our family member. Communicate regularly with the interdisciplinary team to provide updates on her progress, discuss treatment interventions, and address any emerging needs or challenges, ensuring she receives the best possible care and support tailored to her individual needs and preferences.
Family Education and Support: Offer education, training, and emotional support to family members involved in providing care for our loved one with borderline personality disorder. Requirements:
Certification as a registered nurse with experience in psychiatric nursing, mental health counseling, or dialectical behavior therapy.
Proficiency in facilitating dialectical behavior therapy sessions and crisis intervention techniques for individuals with borderline personality disorder and self-harming behaviors.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate support to individuals and families facing mental health challenges.
