Team Overview:
We are a compassionate team of nurses specializing in providing comprehensive care for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), focusing on sensory integration therapy, environmental modifications, and support for families to promote optimal development and well-being. Our team is dedicated to understanding the unique needs of children with ASD and providing individualized care that supports sensory processing and fosters a sensory-friendly environment. We are seeking experienced nurses to join our team to provide specialized care for a 6-year-old child experiencing sensory processing difficulties related to ASD.

Project Overview:
We are seeking skilled nurses to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for a 6-year-old child with ASD. This role involves delivering sensory integration therapy, implementing environmental modifications, and offering support to parents to create a sensory-friendly environment that enhances the child’s sensory processing and overall functioning.

Responsibilities:

Sensory Integration Therapy: Implement sensory integration therapy techniques to help the child regulate sensory input, improve sensory processing skills, and enhance overall sensory functioning. Use sensory-based activities, therapeutic exercises, and play interventions to address sensory sensitivities, sensory-seeking behaviors, and sensory aversions, promoting engagement and participation in daily activities.
Environmental Modifications: Assess the child’s home and school environments to identify sensory triggers and create a sensory-friendly environment that accommodates their sensory needs. Make recommendations for environmental modifications, such as adjusting lighting, reducing noise levels, providing sensory-friendly materials, and creating sensory zones or quiet spaces, to minimize sensory overload and support the child’s comfort and well-being.
Parental Support: Provide education, guidance, and support to parents to help them understand their child’s sensory processing difficulties and implement strategies for creating a supportive sensory environment at home. Offer resources, training, and practical tips for incorporating sensory integration techniques into daily routines, promoting positive parent-child interactions and fostering a nurturing and supportive home environment.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the child’s interdisciplinary team, including occupational therapists, speech therapists, educators, and behavioral specialists, to coordinate care and ensure a holistic approach to addressing the child’s sensory processing difficulties. Communicate effectively with team members, share observations and insights, and participate in team meetings to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to the child’s unique needs and goals.
Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess the child’s sensory processing abilities, sensory preferences, and functional skills to evaluate the effectiveness of sensory integration therapy and environmental modifications. Use standardized assessment tools, sensory profiles, and caregiver feedback to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and adjust intervention strategies as needed to optimize the child’s sensory functioning and participation in daily life.
Requirements:

Certification as a registered nurse with experience in pediatric nursing, developmental disabilities, or autism spectrum disorder.
Proficiency in providing sensory integration therapy and environmental modifications for children with ASD, including knowledge of sensory processing difficulties, sensory integration techniques, and sensory-friendly interventions.
Experience in collaborating with families to support children with special needs, offering guidance, education, and resources to promote optimal development and well-being.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children and families in therapeutic activities, foster trust and rapport, and empower parents to advocate for their child’s sensory needs.
Compassion, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting children with ASD and their families, providing empathetic and family-centered care that honors their unique strengths, challenges, and preferences.
