Client Overview:
We are a caring family dedicated to supporting our 8-year-old child who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD). Our child experiences challenges related to sensory sensitivities and regulation, which significantly impact their daily life and well-being. As parents, our primary goal is to ensure that our child receives effective therapeutic interventions, behavior management strategies, and support to address their sensory needs and promote regulation. We are seeking skilled nursing assistance to provide specialized care and support for our child, including sensory integration therapy, behavior management strategies, and support for us as parents to address sensory sensitivities and promote regulation.

Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for our 8-year-old child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD). This role involves sensory integration therapy, behavior management strategies, and support for parents to address sensory sensitivities and promote regulation in our child.

Responsibilities:

Sensory Integration Therapy: Facilitate sensory integration therapy sessions to help our child regulate their sensory experiences and improve their ability to process and respond to sensory input effectively. Implement evidence-based sensory integration techniques, such as sensory diets, tactile activities, and proprioceptive input, tailored to our child’s individual sensory needs and preferences.
Behavior Management Strategies: Develop and implement behavior management strategies to address our child’s challenging behaviors related to sensory sensitivities and regulation difficulties. Utilize positive behavior support techniques, visual schedules, social stories, and reinforcement strategies to promote positive behavior and reduce meltdowns or sensory overload episodes, fostering a supportive and structured environment for our child.
Support for Parents: Offer guidance, education, and support to us as parents to help us understand and address our child’s sensory needs and regulation challenges at home. Provide training on sensory integration techniques, behavior management strategies, and effective communication approaches, empowering us to create a sensory-friendly environment and implement supportive interventions that promote our child’s well-being and development.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with occupational therapists, behavior analysts, and other healthcare professionals involved in our child’s care to ensure coordinated and holistic support. Communicate regularly with the interdisciplinary team to provide updates on our child’s progress, discuss treatment interventions, and address any emerging needs or concerns, ensuring they receive the best possible care and support tailored to their individual needs and preferences.
Family Empowerment: Empower us as parents to advocate for our child’s needs, access resources, and navigate the educational and therapeutic systems effectively. Provide information on community resources, support groups, and advocacy organizations available to families of children with ASD and SPD, promoting our understanding, resilience, and ability to support our child’s overall well-being and development.
Requirements:

Certification as a registered nurse with experience in pediatric nursing, developmental disabilities, or sensory integration therapy.
Proficiency in facilitating sensory integration therapy sessions and implementing behavior management strategies for children with autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing disorder.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate support to children and families facing developmental challenges.
