About the Client:
We are a devoted and caring family deeply concerned about the well-being of our elderly parents, both of whom are in their 80s and are experiencing advanced dementia along with behavioral agitation. Our primary goal is to ensure that they receive specialized dementia care, effective behavioral interventions, and comprehensive support to manage their challenging behaviors, while also providing assistance and guidance to our family caregivers.
Project Overview:
We are seeking experienced healthcare professionals specializing in dementia care and behavioral interventions to provide tailored support for our elderly parents and our family caregivers. This project aims to implement specialized care strategies to address advanced dementia and behavioral agitation, while also offering guidance and assistance to our family members managing the complexities of caregiving.
Responsibilities:
Provide specialized dementia care tailored to the unique needs and challenges of our elderly parents, focusing on promoting comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions to address behavioral agitation and manage challenging behaviors associated with advanced dementia, such as aggression, wandering, or sundowning.
Offer support and guidance to our family caregivers, providing education on dementia care techniques, strategies for managing challenging behaviors, and coping mechanisms for caregiver stress and burnout.
Collaborate closely with our elderly parents’ healthcare providers, including geriatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, and dementia specialists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care that addresses their medical, cognitive, and emotional needs.
Facilitate discussions about end-of-life care preferences, advance care planning, and palliative care options, ensuring that our elderly parents’ wishes are respected and honored.
Requirements:
Certification or extensive experience in geriatric care, dementia care, or related fields, with expertise in managing advanced dementia and behavioral agitation.
Proficiency in implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions to address challenging behaviors associated with dementia, with a focus on promoting a safe and supportive care environment.
Experience in providing support and education to family caregivers, addressing caregiver stress, and offering guidance on effective caregiving techniques and self-care strategies.
Excellent communication skills and a compassionate demeanor, fostering trust and collaboration with our family and interdisciplinary healthcare teams involved in our elderly parents’ care.
Knowledge of community resources and support services available for individuals with dementia and their families, including respite care, support groups, and home care services.
